Help Loudoun Reduce Energy Costs
From the Piedmont Environmental Council:
Tell the Board to Vote 'Yes' on the New Loudoun Energy Strategy
The revised plan --now officially called the Energy Strategy-- was presented to the Board of Supervisors and includes nine short term projects (including funding for staff) that would help Loudoun's government, residents, and businesses to save energy and money.
If the Board adopts the strategy and pursues funding, the projects it selects would receive $1.9 million from the Department of Energy.
Send an email to your supervisor today.
Tell the Board it's time for Loudoun to step up and create energy savings opportunities we can all benefit from.
Saving Energy AND Money
Ultimately, this is an application to get some very good energy initiatives started in Loudoun. The nine projects outlined in the draft energy strategy would save the county money, provide renewable energy solutions, and help businesses and residents reduce their own costs. The potential projects include:
- Implementing the second phase of an existing County building energy audit program, reducing annual costs to the County by $124,000.
- Developing an energy master plan for a mixed use transit neighborhood combined with a major data center cluster.
- Providing outreach and education to homeowners to promote home efficiency measures.
- Promoting efficient building standards and practices, helping to provide 40% energy efficiency gains in commercial buildings.
Public Input Session December 14th
The county will hold a public input session on Monday, December 14th at 7:30pm to discuss the draft energy strategy. Citizens are encouraged to attend to comment on the plan. The meeting will take place in the Loudoun County Government Center Board Room, 1 Harrison St, SE, Leesburg (Directions).
Thanks for taking a moment to share your thoughts. The Board needs to approve the strategy by mid-January in order to be eligible for Dept. of Energy funding. For more information on the energy strategy, please visit the Loudoun County website or give me a call at 703-431-6941.
