Volunteers Needed For Mapping Project

What the project is about:
Loudoun County's Office of Mapping and Geographic Information has been at work creating a map of the county's existing sidewalks, trails, and crosswalks. This is being done to implement elements of the county's 2003 Bicycle and Pedestrian Mobility Master Plan. This project includes developing a website for the public to and identifying gaps in the sidewalk and trail system. A secondary objective is to provide trail data to the mapping component of the county's Computer Aided Dispatching (CAD) system. The county has been mapping the sidewalks and trails from aerial photography, but it lacks information about them such as condition.

Why we need you:
Above all, this is a great opportunity for us, the community, to partner with our County government and its wonderful staff. There are two main stages in this project:

1) Identifying What We Have
During this initial phase, we need on-the-ground-scouts to identify the conditions of the existing sidewalks, trails, crosswalks, and signage.

2) Identifying What We Need
This is the time we will contribute our recommendations for things such as connections, better signage, repair, and development.
