Biking on Roundabouts: Feedback Needed

Dear Fellow Bicyclists:

Plans are in the works to integrate roundabouts in the Route 7 and Route 9 intersection near Leesburg. These will definitely have an impact on the W&OD Trail.

Past studies (Florida Department of Transportation, Summary of Final Report, WPI#0510824, Sept. 2000) have shown that roundabouts reduce auto accidents, but increase bicycle-auto conflicts. So, we'd like to be able to help make sure that these roundabouts include a safe way for bicyclists to navigate through.

The Loudoun County Board of Supervisors has initiated a community outreach effort to receive input from the public on a proposed list of prioritized bicycle and pedestrian improvements countywide.

The 3rd community meeting to obtain public input on the proposed countywide bicycle and pedestrian accommodations priority list will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 29, 2011: Loudoun County Government Center, 1 Harrison Street, S.E., Leesburg
